Covenant Place II Cahn Family Building and Mirowitz Center
Work on the four-story, 110,000 SF Covenant Place II Cahn Family Building, a senior living facility BSI is constructing on Covenant Place's Millstone Campus, continues to make significant advances as the summer progresses.
"Framing is wrapping up, windows are installed, roofing systems are going in along with masonry work on the exterior and siding is scheduled to start this week," said Project Manager, John Kenter. Kenter has 35 years of experience in the industry and has successfully completed a number of large scale, wood frame, multi-family residential projects in the St. Louis area. Prior to this project, he served a Project Manager on the new Hospice House for BJC West County, completed in 2017.
BSI has a connection to the campus that goes back decades. BSI founder and Chairman Emeritus, Joe Shaughnessy, managed construction of the original B'nai B'rith Covenant House I building in 1971, when he was a Project Manager for Gamble Construction. That building was removed last summer in order to make way for the Covenant Place II Cahn Family Building that is under construction today.
Other team members for the Covenant Place project are: McCormack Baron Salazar (the project's developer), Gershman Mortgage (financing), and Lawrence Group (the architect).
The new facility will provide affordable housing and a rang of services that will enable seniors to successfully age in place, or live independently for a longer period of time. The $23 million structure will house Mirowitz Center, a senior services hub that will be open to the community and will offer: medical/physical therapy clinics, legal/social service assistance, recreational classes, banking services, a multi-purpose room for worship/performances, and a cafe with a full food service.
The cafe will be called HJ's. It will be open six days a week and will offer carry out meals for those who would like to pick up a meal and go. "One side of the cafe will feature multiple screens so our sports fans can keep up with the games. We also plan to offer cooking demonstrations in between meal hours, which will be broadcast on the screens," stated Joan Denison, Covenant Place Executive Director.
"We're working with a great team at Covenant Place," said Kenter. "When completed, this building will truly benefit the entire community as well as the residents who live here," he continued. The rest of the BSI Project Team includes: Fred McCall (Project Executive), Rob Beaulieu (Superintendent), Chris Badalamenti (Field Operations Director) and Bruce Calvert (Safety Director).
